Day 3
Terry and his sister M.
We spent the 4th of July at Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington. What a great place to be on Independence Day. We felt very patriotic being at the home of one of our founding fathers. This was not our first time being here. We visited when we were in DC four summers ago. Our now older kids were younger kids then, so I think they appreciated it more this time around. They have a very informative, interactive museum on grounds, which the children loved. They had a battle re-enactment. They had a presentation by George and Martha Washington and fireworks on the Potomac River. The fireworks were similar to how the fireworks would have looked back then. After fireworks they served cake. We were also able to tour the house. The place was packed and I was amazed at how many foreigners I saw. It was neat to see and it left me wondering why they would want to visit this place. We are a relatively young country, however we are a country like none other. (at least for now.)
That evening we went back to my SIL and BIL's house and had a cookout. Aunt M and the girls made a flag cake. Would you believe this is the first time we have made a flag cake? We watched the fireworks from DC on the TV.We didn't want to brave the crowds with our big crowd. It was a great July 4th!
I especially love the pictures of Amelia with her hand on her hip!
