Pulling together the children's mini altars and wanting a quiet place for them to lift their hearts to God. I started thinking about where I do a lot of my praying and reflecting. It certainly is not a quiet place. It is in the heart of my home, my kitchen. My little "sacred space" evolved over time. I spend a lot of time at my kitchen sink so this is really the only logical place ;0) I added little prayers or Holy Cards that I liked in the window sills. Over time statues have been added and candles have been lit for different novenas and intentions.
This is an old statue I bought of "Mary in the Temple" I look at that statue and I am reminded of Mary's humble obedience to God. I send up a prayer asking to be humble, obedient, gentle, loving, and patient as I take care of my family. Just like the Blessed Mother did.
Ahhh, and of course St. Joseph. Every time I look at that statue I send up a prayer for my husband who works so hard for his family. I ask God to protect him and make him strong, patient, loving, and courageous. Just as St. Joseph was.
This is not our family altar, that is in our living room. This is my little place, my sacred spot, the prayers of my daily life as wife, mom, teacher. The heart of my home!
