Well, we have officially finished our first month of school. We have come a long way, and I think the children are adjusting to this new schedule and new way of life. For the most part they are doing well. Academically, they are doing great, and making good grades. It is an extremely humbling experience sending your child to school after being homeschooled for so long. Your child is out there on display and you get to see the areas in which you did well and the areas where you could have done better(According to school standards). Looking back I probably would have made them write more and concentrated on their math facts a little more, oh and deadlines, you know, you have to have an assignment done by a certain day. The school they are in now is big into cursive handwriting. In our homeschool we were not. So, Joe especially, had a crash course in handwriting this summer and is playing catch-up, but it is coming along. The great thing about children is they adapt easily and catch on so quickly. So all in all, despite all of the flip flopping I did with our curriculum, and the time off for new babies and illness, crazy days, and just life in general, we did a pretty good job. So no fear homeschooling mommies, you also are doing a good job and your children are learning. Keep up the good work.
They have made some good friends. But, have also learned how to deal with drama, that is totally unnecessary. It is a sad thing when your child wants to learn and do a good job, but has to deal with nonsense in the classroom. So frustrating. This was one of the many reasons we decided to homeschool to begin with. So, we will see, having them in school is what is working for us right now, but I am not sure if this will be a forever thing for us. We will take it one year at a time and pray.
